Elementary (kindergarten - fifth grades)
Our Sunday morning experiences for elementary kids incorporate a variety of activities designed for kids to build their relationship with God, friends and caring adults. Knowing we have been entrusted for one hour with these wondering and exploring God-trusting souls we incorporate as much as we can into each lesson while providing a consistent routine.
Here is a look at our Sunday mornings:
Small Group Opening
Entering Adventureland is a busy time of finding crafts and games to play along with meeting up with old friends and making new ones in each child’s small group classroom.
Large Group Opening
Following the small group time in the classrooms all the elementary kids are gathered together for a time of updates announcing upcoming events, ground rules, music (9:45AM only, currently), prayer, offering (supporting the ministries of New Horizon and Oscar an orphan in Zimbabwe) and a time to present the month’s memory verse.
Bible Story
Introducing the Bible story is important to our kids- it provides a framework for them to begin to understand the story so we begin each lesson with some type of interactive introduction to the Bible story and the big idea for the day.
Presenting the Bible story in an engaging way is a priority to us. To name just a few we have preformed reenactments including costumes or a fast-forward bringing the story into modern day, told the story with props pulled from a bag, watched a video clip of it explored the text right out of child-friendly Bible or told it as a cliffhanger.
Small Groups Time
We put a high priority on helping kids apply the Bible story to their lives knowing that the Bible is not about information alone, but about transformation. Transformation opportunities for our kids occur in their age-level small groups led by caring adult or youth who leads an activity designed to help your child apply the Bible story to their own life.
Individual prayer time naturally flows out of these application activities along with whatever the kids want prayer for. Children are encouraged to pray for one another aloud- sometimes the simplest prayers are the most profound.
The children enjoy a small snack while sitting with their small group. If your child has a food allergy please alert the classroom teachers each Sunday.
Pick Up Time
Following snack, the games, activities and crafts are brought back out- or if the weather is nice- the kids can go outside to hula-hoop or toss a football before parents arrive to pick up.
Driving Home the Point is given out as devotion option for elementary kids and lets those who bring them to Adventureland know what was discussed.
4th-5th Grade Class at 9:45AM
Moving from elementary school to middle school can be rocky for kids. This all new class tackls the tough questions fourth and fifth graders face with life-changing Bible lessons focused on the real life issues they face.
This new class also has its own online community for the kids to use during the week allowing them to help plan their lessons, play games and email each other and their teachers.
Choir:
If your child is in the second through fifth grade and wants to learn the basics of singing in a group while worshiping God then this choir option is for them! Please contact Erin Claxon .
